A Bit About Me...

Cayce Murphy, soprano, is an up and coming young Appalachian artist recognized for her versatility in multiple styles of performance, captivating stage presence, and expressive sensibility.

This 2023/24 season, Cayce is overjoyed to have engagements in choral and operatic settings alike. These include role debut Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni with the University of Memphis Opera (April 2024), soprano soloist in Brubeck's To Hope: The Mass with Rhodes Mastersingers Chorale (April 2024), and chorus in Puccini's La Boheme with Opera Memphis (May 2024). 

Cayce's recent opera credits include Laurette in Bizet's Le Docteur Miracle (November 2022), partial roles through scenes programs of Helena in Britten's Midsummer Night's Dream, and Clara in Gershwin's Porgy and Bess.

Since relocating to Memphis, Tennessee in 2022, Cayce had the privilege of participating in the chorus of Verdi's Requiem, Ave Maria, Stabat Mater, Mozart's Requiem, Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna, and Higdon's Singing Rooms/Ruminations with Rhodes Mastersingers Chorale under the direction of Dr. William Skoog. She also was a soprano soloist for the Beethoven Choral Fantasy with the University of Memphis Orchestra and Chamber Choir for the grand opening of the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center (February 2023), as well as featured ensemble for Renee Fleming's Memphis debut concert at the Cannon Center of the Performing Arts with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Robert Moody (September 2022)

She also presented her graduate degree recital in November 2023, featuring pianist Dr. Alex Benford and violinist Bianca Balderama, highlighting the works of composers such as Bach, Mozart, Debussy, Rodrigo, and Whitacre.

Recent musical theater credits include featured ensemble with Broadway stars Loren Allred and Telly Leung for The Music of Modern Broadway concert at the Cannon Center of the Performing Arts with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Robert Moody (April 2023), and soloist for the premiere of Who Says We Cant? A New Musical Works Cabaret, composed by Spencer Germany and Daniel Ward, at Beethoven Club Memphis (September 2022).

Cayce is set to graduate with her Master of Music in Voice Performance from the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music (University of Memphis) this upcoming May where she studies with Professor Mary Wilson, soprano. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance and Bachelor of Arts in Music Education (K-12) from Marshall University, located in Huntington, West Virginia where she studied with Dr. Alexander Lee, tenor.

 

She is a certified music educator with experience teaching choral music in public school settings, and currently teaches private voice lessons. More information about Cayce's background in education can be found in the Teaching section of her website.
